2021 Wrangler NFR Round 5

Ardrossan, Alberta - Round five was full of fast times and nintey point rides. In the barrel racing Emily Beisel and Namgis D 33 aka Chongo, who is by Bucks Hancock Dude and out of Track Goddess, ran a new fast time of the finals, stopping the clock in 13.43 seconds to win the round. Hailey Kinsel picked up a second place cheque and remains in the drivers seat of the World standings, where Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi sits number one in the average race.

In the bareback riding, Cole Franks rode Xplosive Skies of Calgary Stampede for an impressive 90.0 points, but Kaycee Feild spurred down Famous Dex from Brookman Rodeo for 91.0 points to win the round. Feild sits first in the standings and first in the average, looking to clinch another World title. Orin Larsen was 83.0 on Redzilla from Hi Lo ProRodeo.

It was Tyler Pearson who ran the fast 3.6 to win round number five of the Steer Wrestling. Canadian, Scott Guenthner was a 4.4 and finished in the crying hole. He is now 11th in the World and sits 3rd in the average. Curtis Cassidy was a 4.0 plus 10 for a broken barrier, bumping him back into 14th position. Jacob Talley remains first in World but sits 13th in average. NFR Rookie Tristan Martin sits seventh in the standings and first in the average race.

In the Team Roping we watched Coleman Proctor and Logan Medlin win the round with a 3.8 second run. Canadian Jeremy Buhler and Rhen Richard pull a second place cheque with their 4.0 second run. They are currently sitting fifth in the World standings and fourth in the average.

Round five of the Saddle Bronc was a wild one. We watched NFR Rookie, Kolby Wanchuk ride Flirtatious from Brookman Rodeo for 89.5 points for a 4th/5th split with Brody Cress who rodeo Calgary Stampedes, Tokyo Bubbles. Zeke Thurston and Miss Valley from Powder River Rodeo, were 90.5, tying with Stetson Wright who rode Wild Cherry Calgary Stampede, each for $18,724. Reigning World Champion, Ryder Wright and Feather Fluffer Championship Pro Rodeo were the Round 5 winners, putting up 91.0 points. Wright won a round last year on this very horse.

Finally, eight time Wrangler NFR Qualifier, and 2020 NFR Reserve Champion, Marty Yates won the round with a 7.3 for $26,997. Shane Hanchey and Caleb Smidt are going head to head in the second half of the finals, with Hanchey first in the World and second in the average, where Smidt is second in the World and first in the aggregate, currently with just $1,500 separating them in the standings.

The ride of the night, hands down was World Champion Stetson Wright against Chisled from Powder River Rodeo. After the 8-second buzzer, Wright would score 94.5 points to take the win. Only a third of the pack of bull riders rode last night. Champion Sage Kimzey and NFR Rookie, JB Mauney were among those who bucked off. Kimzey still sits in the driver seat of the standings, and fourth in the average. Stetson Wright is second in the world and third in the standings, and Parker Breding sits third in the world and first in the average. The first place average cheque pays $69,234.

The Breakaway Roping event, which began today, saw Canadian born, Shelby Boisjoli, rope her first five calves in 14.4 seconds and take the lead in the aggregate. Boisjoli rides the 2021 Horse of The Year, Onna. The Breakaway Finals has a $200,000 purse up for grabs.

Round number six starts December 7th at 5:45PM MST.
