BLACKFALDS, Alberta - Last night during the buckle ceremony, Emily Beisel said her pre-race warm up happens over by the stalling area. She loads Chongo in the trailer at the end of the saddle bronc to drive the mile and a bit to Globe Life Field. With three tie-down ropers remaining, they come down the tunnel. This warm up paired with the elastics around her arms (which was the hot topic on social media) is apparently the winning combination to run a 16.85, the fastest time of the week in Arlington, Texas. Emily let fans know the elastics are to serve as a reminder to ride smooth and stay out of Chongos way. We all know the real winning combination is hard work and dedication to the sport, plus one hell of a horse.

We also witnessed Hailey Kinsel and DM Sissy Hayday run a 16.90 to place second in the round. Shelley Morgan ran a beautiful 17.06 for third and Brittany Barnett, who jumped on her horse Pei, stopped the clock at 17.16 for a fourth place cheque. This was her first horse change through out the seven rounds.

Manitoba cowboy, Orin Larsen spurred Yippee Kibitz of Calgary Stampede for 90 points to win the round in the bareback riding. Larsen is the first Canadian to win a round at the 2020 WNFR. This horse helped Tanner Aus win the $100,000 round at the 2019 Calgary Stampede for 92.5 points. Tim O’Connell stays in the number one position, but drops to fourth in the average, while Kaycee Feild is second in the standings and first in the average.

In the steer wrestling it was birthday boy, Clayton Hass who won the round with a 3.4 second run. Curtis Cassidy had tough luck with the barrier. Matt Reeves stays in the number one position but sits eighth in the average, where second ranked cowboy, Dakota Eldridge is 3rd in the average and Stetson Jorgensen sits third in the standings, and second in the average.

It took seven rounds, but Kolton Schmidt and Hunter Koch got on the board with a 4.4 and were able to finally pull a cheque for third place. Charly Crawford and Logan Medlin win the team roping with a 3.8.

In the saddle bronc it was all-around cowboy, Stetson Wright who covered Larry CulPepper of Hi Lo for 90, his third 90 point ride of the week. Larry CulPepper was purchased from Canadian Art Francis about five years ago. Brody Cress finished second with 88.5 points and Zeke Thurston rode Bartender of Dakota Rodeo for 88.0 points, good enough for third.

Hunter Herrin and his mount Rambo, (not Rainbow) won round seven in the tie-down roping with a 6.8, matching the fastest time of the week. Ryan Jarrett showed us some cowboy sh*t in round number seven, where he threw a houlihan after having to over n under his horse, then catching for a time of 11.8. Out of the money, but noteworthy.

Stetson Wright got to jump on the victory lap horse not once, but twice in round seven after winning the bull riding with a 89 point ride aboard Slinger, and in the saddle bronc for his 90 point effort, adding around 52k points to his standings. Jeff Askey and Sage Kimzey were the only other two to cover their bulls.

In the breakaway roping finals, Jackie Crawford gave away her top spot in the NFBR standings and average over a call missed by the judges. Currently 6 months pregnant and roping with a cut off saddle horn, Crawford knew she caught a leg in her rope that the judges missed, and approached them after her run.

Round number eight starts December 10th, at 6:45PM CT.
