Nancy Csabay CFR 2015
Nancy Csabay is your CPRA Ladies Barrel Racing Season Leader after running at 25 rodeos and winning $27,658.10. This is Csabay’s 6th Canadian Finals Rodeo which she has attended on 3 different horses that she has trained.
This year Nancy is headed to Edmonton with Little Miss Wicked (Terribly Wicked X Like An Effort, going back to Special Effort) who has been voted CPRA Barrel Horse with the Most Heart. Wicked’s main quirk is not enjoying being tied to their aluminium 3 horse trailer, she pulls back every time she is tied to it. I asked Nancy to describe her style. “She likes to run around the barrels in 4-wheel drive, loves big pens, the further the 1st barrel is off the fence, the better.”
Has your routine changed with your horse as you prepare for CFR?No, my routine hasn’t changed. I’ll ride her a couple of times a week and pony her 3-4 times a week. We don’t do any barrel work. I wish I had hills to train on, but I live in flat country.
What has been your favorite Canadian rodeo this year and why?I only went to the rodeos I like this year, all of them were great. I’d say that Maple Creek is one of my favourites. The ground is great, nice set up and I think the committee is grateful to have us there. I like Hand Hills too. The ground is usually pretty good, but it’s a set up pattern which I don’t really care for, but the crowd is local farmers and ranchers. The pie is really good there too. I like the Jasper, Cranbrook, and Pincher Creek run because my daughter Kate and I make a holiday out of it. We do some site seeing and stop at Fairmont for a swim in the hot pools.
What is the best piece of advice you were ever given regarding barrel racing?
Follow the KISS method – Keep It Simple Stupid. Don’t overthink and complicate things. Stay in the present moment.
With all the miles made, varying ground conditions, and expenses, what kept the CFR dream alive for you?
I do my best to live in the present moment. So I keep doing what I love to do and that’s barrel racing. Wicked was feeling good and wanting to do her job so I kept entering and if it was meant for us to go to the CFR, so be it.
What is one thing you can’t live without on the road?
The support from my family. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be going.
What has been your favorite memory or moment on the road this year?
I missed entries for Lethbridge rodeo. This is the second year in a row I have done this and one of the closest rodeos for me.. I texted this to my husband, Tony, and he texted back -“AGAIN?” and I texted him saying “Maybe it’ll be a slew hole like last year” (because they had a lot of rain last year). He texted back, “No comment”.
What are your favorite pair of cowboy boots & favorite lipstick, lip gloss or lip chap?
Boulet – Caiman Gator. Chapstick – Carmex. Lipgloss – whatever is in my pocket.
I’d like to thank Equiwinner for their ongoing support in keeping Wicked so wicked!
