Robyn Hoover and Perks of Crime, BEI Sweepstakes Futurity Champions.

McGrath cowgirl, Robyn Hoover and her horse, Perks of Crime are having a stellar futurity season.

Together they have become the Ice Breaker Futurity Champion in Thorsby, Reserve Champion at Yellow Rose Futurity, finished 4th in the first go at South Country Futurity, were the Reserve Champion at West Of The Fifth Futurity. They are the All Cash Barrel Race Reserve 1D Champion, the Foremost added money barrel race 1D Champion and finished 6th in the average at the Western Classic.

This weekend, they added $24,666.00 to their earnings after winning the Breeders Elite Incentive Sweepstakes Futurity, in Rimbey Alberta, bringing their LTE to $38,400.

Perks of Crime aka Rumour, is a 2017 mare, bred by Rigetti Farms Ltd. She is by Perks French Cash, out of Carols Crime, who is by Crimewave.

Robyn was able to buy Rumour as a 3 year old from her parents, who had bought her as a weanling from Bertina Olafson. Robyn says, “She was the only good thing that came out of the pandemic, as I had been laid off of work and my schooling had been delayed so I started riding her because it didn’t matter if I got bucked off. It turned out she was a good girl and never did buck. I give a lot of credit to Bernie Schellenberg, as he put the first month on her as a two year old.”

Hoover describes Rumour as a free runner who runs in and out of her turns without a lot of rate. “She has instant acceleration when asked but is very controllable. She looks really easy to ride but her turns can be hard to sit as she’s so quick in and out of them.”

Though Robyn wasn’t able to be at the BEI Friday or Saturday, she was impressed with the professional appearance of the arena, how organized and smoothly everything ran. She said, “I especially appreciates how consistent the ground was for everyone. I’d personally like to thank all the breeders who are supporting our event and giving us the opportunity to promote their offspring and run for such a large payout in Canada at the BEI.”

When asked what her initial reaction was when she realized she had won, she said, “I’m not going to lie, my initial reaction was tears. Happy ones of course. As for the $24,666, my bank account has never looked so good. First thing on my list is to get the A/C working in my truck and Rumour a new halter. My mom couldn’t believe the one I had on her for pictures.”

Robyn would like to thank the following people.

“Of course I have to thank my parents for everything they’ve helped me with throughout our journey so far. Mom actually kept her in shape for me while I was up north working this winter so she knew exactly how I wanted her worked in the time onlies and open riding when she hauled Rumour to Rimbey for me.

I have the worlds greatest farrier, my dad. He also made the bit I use on Rumour, which she absolutely loves.

Thanks to Cole and Kristen Bevans (my sister) for giving me the opportunity to live and call Magrath home.

My Aunt and Uncle at Woody’s Custom Saddles for giving me the best seat possible, my Woody’s Custom Saddle.

All of my grandparents for always being so supportive.

Milt Rigetti Farms and Sky’s The Limit Performance Horses (Bertina Olafson) for giving me the most amazing opportunity of owning Perks Of Crime, Rumour.

Jess from Southern Sage Osteopathy and Connie from Fancy Vet services for being so accommodating and keeping Rumour feeling her best.

Also my friends. I have such a wonderful uplifting group supporting me always.”

Congratulations, Robyn & Rumour!
