Pamela Morrison - CFR50

Pamela Morrison is ready for her very first Canadian Finals Rodeo with her mare, TSFAMOUSFRENCHLASSIE. In the 2024 season she won Innisfail and Cranbrook, and placed at numerous other rodeos. She finished fourth at Ponoka and ended up seventh in the aggregate. After 37 rodeos, she finished 9th in the regular season, earning $22,371.54.

What is it that makes your horse so special to you?
She has more try than any horse I have ever ridden. She’s a very opinionated, and she makes sure she tells me where she likes to be massaged.

What has been your most memorable run in 2024, and what made it memorable for you?
Innisfail pro rodeo- it felt like a run of perfection. Everything I ever practice for

What was different about your rodeo season this year compared to last year or other seasons?
I hadn’t entered a barrel race in ten years prior to this year! Nothing can describe this incredible comeback

Did you face any challenges this season? Tell us about them.
My mare wasn’t rodeo seasoned…. And I hadn’t been to pro rodeos in ten years! Everything felt like a huge challenge. Especially being from BC and having to stay in Alberta to save driving miles

Tell the readers something good that happened to you this season, other than placing at, or winning a rodeo.
I had a feeling that Dyna would be a good rodeo horse for open arenas. She proved it true quickly when we started running at the big rodeos.
I was drawn out of Ponoka rodeo due to lack of qualifications. Luckily got called as an alternative with only two days left of the rodeo and we showed up and placed 4th to make the short go!

Who is your travelling partner, and what do you enjoy most about travelling with them?
Jessa Marcenko. She looked after entering us both for the first half of the season. We compromised to make plans well, and we were great at offering advice and support for each other.

What is the best advice you’d give to readers, about horses and or competing?
Spend as much time as you can being around, and getting to know your horse. Surround yourself with the people who are accomplishing the goals and dreams you’ve made

Favourite Canadian rodeo this year, and why?
La Crete. The hospitality is above and beyond any rodeo I have been to

Which of the other CFR Qualifiers horses would you swing a leg over if given the chance and why?
Brook Wills- Famey. She is so honest and stands up on rodeo ground.

What can you or your horse not live without on the road?

Mental game; how do you stay mentally strong in the rodeo game, with many ups and downs?
My horse was probably the best thing for my mental game that I could ever ask for! She would go out and try her hardest every time!! When I had the slightest doubts she would just shock me and go win us money! My biggest challenge this year was pushing myself to keep going even when my mind and body were exhausted. I would just tell myself it’s not an option to quit. I would reach out to friends who would encourage me.

Do you have any up and coming prospects, and or, what do you look for in a prospect that you could share a little about with readers?
I have a two others currently.  A 5 yr old and a 3 yr old.  I am a bit partial to the Dash Ta Fame x FRENCHMANS GUY crosses on papers.

What was one thing a committee did this year that you appreciated the most?
Meal vouchers and/or feeding us. We don’t get a lot of nice meals on the road.

What is your advice for someone who wants to take a shot at making the Canadian Finals Rodeo?
Know your horse. Surround yourself with people who know what it takes to get there.

I would like to thank Carman Pozzobon for taking my mare Dyna for 6 months last year and the amazing solid barrel pattern and foundation she put on her. I am super Thankful for my friend Rhonda McLeod for letting me stay with her and her family in Arizona last winter. Thank you to Galloway’s for a place to stay and rodeo from in Alberta .Teri George for all her advice and horse wisdom. My Son, his Girlfriend and my parents for looking after everything while I am away at rodeos. My travel partner Jessa Marcenko, and many friends who are always a phone call away and offer encouraging support even on late night drives and trying to find rodeo grounds.

Of course I would also like to thank my sponsors. Reita Creek Scoreboards, M-6 sportline Shirts, Leading Edge Equine, and Broke Cowgirl Braided Tack.
