Lynette Brodoway - CFR50
This is Lynette Brodoway’s SEVENTH Canadian Finals Rodeo Qualification. In an interview with Lipstick and Cowboy Boots last year, she said that she wanted to make it to Edmonton for CFR50, and she has done just that.
The 2023 Canadian Champion is headed for Edmonton with her great horse, SR BOOTS ON FIRE aka Cowboy. The duo won $43,604.54 after entering 39 rodeos, winning the SMS Pro Tour Final Round, TeePee Creek, Benalto, Williams Lake, Bassano, and Buffalo Lake, placing at numerous others throughout the season, earning the title of Season Leader.

What is it that makes your horse so special to you?
Cowboy’s athletic ability and desire to compete.
What does it mean to you to be the 2024 Season Leader?
Cowboy and I had rough start to this year, so I felt I should back off from running him at as many rodeos as I did last year. I feel this payed off as he felt really good later in the season. Being season leader was not on my radar so I am extremely grateful for a strong finish to the 2024 season.
What has been your most memorable run in 2024, and what made it memorable for you?
Winning Benalto Stampede was most memorable as I have never done that well there. It is a different set up and I felt we handled it better.
What was different about your rodeo season this year compared to last year or other seasons?
Cowboy came back from the 2023 year of competing wanting to do some things different. Sorting through that was challenging for me and it took until mid summer to smooth out those changes.
Tell the readers something good that happened to you this season, other than placing at, or winning a rodeo.
My husband Ken helped me get down the road more than usual this year. It takes a lot of stress off me when he has the time to help with the driving, setting up panels and taking care of the horses.
Who is your travelling partner, and what do you enjoy most about travelling with them?
For the month of July, Miranda Gerherdt form La Crete helped me with the driving, and taking care of the horses. She also helped at home with riding colts and with all the other mundane chores at home.
Favourite Canadian rodeo this year, and why?
Bassano Stampede was my fave this year. It is almost like a home town rodeo and so many of my family and friends were there to cheer us on!
Which of the other CFR Qualifiers horses would you swing a leg over if given the chance and why?
I am not sure that any of the other girls would want me on their horses, lol, but if given the chance I would love to swing a leg over Brooke Wills’ Famey.
What can you or your horse not live without on the road?
My coffee maker. I enjoy good coffee, it has to be organic and smooth to the taste.
You have qualified to the CFR SEVEN times now and on different horses. What would you say is the key to your success over the years?
What is interesting to me is that the three horses I have qualified on are all by 'Root Beers Boots’ Obviously I get along with them well and they have the qualities that work for me to be successful.
What was one thing a committee did this year that you appreciated the most?
I am grateful for all the rodeos I competed at this year. To put on a rodeo is no easy task and I am very fortunate to be able to do what I do! Hats off to all the Rodeo Committees!!!
