Kirsty White CFR 2021
This will be Kirsty White’s sixth Canadian Finals Rodeo appearance. She is headed to Red Deer in 8th position with $6,609.81 won after attending 21 rodeos, placing at Kennedy , Medicine Hat, Coronation, Taber, Drayton Valley, Benalto, Cranbrook, and Dawson Creek.
Kirsty is a second generation cowgirl as her family was involved with horses and her Mom was a barrel racer, which helped play into her obsession with the training aspect of the sport.
Do your horses have any quirks?
Special Tack aka Racey, she is a quirk. I don’t try to change it as she gets much worse, very sensitive and easily offended. JKH Raisin Cain aka Raisin is the exact opposite, very laid back and hungry all the time. A very happy horse!
What is your go to saddle, pad and bit on your main mount? What do you like about them?
I ride in a Woodys saddle. They are simply the best! Deep seat and they fit everything, and you can’t wear them out , I’ve tried!
What are your horses story?
I raised both mares, Racey has been life changing to me , she owes me nothing, now she is giving me babies , so it’ll be incredible to ride her offspring. Raisin has the coolest style, so easy on herself , I knew I would train her and keep her when she was 2 hours old , so balanced and natural athlete, the funnest horse to run.
What do you do to keep a sharp mental edge in the game of rodeo? How do you stay motivated throughout the season?
The last year and a half has been challenging. I was caught flat footed when the rodeos started. My timing was off, knocked barrels for a lot of money.. I had to change things at home and focus more on rodeoing and lighten the load here at home. I also have great friends who helped me get it together!
What does your feed program look like, keeping your horses in peak condition going down the road and even in the off season?
I have the best Alfalfa hay and my grain is from (Healthy Herds ) Jody Elliots mix , Trimax , and Platinum as my main supplement, and the greatest Vet Ty Corbiell. I ride everyday, I just ride everyday for them and me!
What do you do to condition your horses leading up to the season, and what does your pre CFR routine consist of?
I try to spend more quality time with the ones I’m running, no big change, and I stay off the colts.
What is the best advice you’ve been given regarding life, rodeo, horses or barrel racing?
They go they stages on the way to becoming a more finished horse, don’t get too high or too low depending on where you are at , do what you must to get them through and work as hard as you can, ride as many horses as you can, because that’s what gives you feel!
What is your favourite barrel racing bloodline, and what do you look for in a prospect?
There are so many!! The Goodbye Lane, Tres Seis, and I love Major Bonanza! I want to breed Racey to Tres Seis.
What is the one thing you cannot live without on the road?
Pillow.
Favourite Canadian rodeo and why?
Calgary, just gets the blood pumping and the Canadian Finals Rodeo!
Which of the other CFR Qualifiers horses would you swing a leg over if given the chance?
Lynettes horse, Cowboy.
Who has been your barrel racing/rodeo mentor and what is something they’ve taught you?
Rayel Little. She has taught me everything and she has been a great friend, mentor and life coach.
What are your goals for 2022?
Training the young ones and competing!
I would like to thank my sponsors, Ty Corbiell and Woodys Custom Saddles for sticking with me and M6 Sport. I would also like to thank my awesome friends and family who push me to be better all around.
