Bradi Whiteside CFR 2022
The 2022 Canadian Finals Rodeo will be Bradi Whiteside’s second qualification in the barrel racing, and first qualification in the breakaway roping. Both Bradi and her sister Kylie have qualified in both events in the 2022 rodeo season.
Bradi won $26,672.27 after 44 rodeos, and heads to the CFR sixth in the ladies barrel racing, and won $15,347 to be third in the breakaway roping. She also won just over $16,000 at the Canadian Barrel Horse Incentive in Ponoka this fall.
Bradi won Leduc and La Crete, and split the win at Airdrie and Falkland. In the breakaway she won Raymond, Rockyford, Olds, as well as the SMS Equipment Tour finals round.
What is your main mount’s registered name, bloodlines, and does he/she have any quirks?
Slicks Sweet Legacy (Sis) is by Slick By Design out of Bars Sweet Legacy. Her quirk to me would be that she doesn’t like to be loved on, she’s more the all business type that likes to be left alone. Preppies Bit of Jazz (Riddle) is by Preppies Last out of Our Little Grace. I would have to say Riddles quirks would be that he can be quite heard bound and he’s scared of almost everything! The breakaway horse that I used for most of the year is owned by my boyfriend Ben Bamford. His registered name is, Hott For Teacher (Breakaway Horse of The Year). He is by Spots Hot out of a Docs Stylish Oak mare. I wouldn’t really say he has a quirk, he’s a nice horse to be around.
What is your go to saddle, pad, and bit on your main mount?
For my barrel horses, I love my Robbie Phillips Saddles along with a best ever pad. For bits, I love the Dave Elliot’s. I also use a Jim Warner Hackamore on Riddle. For rope saddles, I don’t really have any particular saddle that I like to use, the one I use is a Top Hand saddle, and I use a CSI pad with it. For a bit, I use a chain port blessing bit with a tie down, and my favourite breakaway ropes are the Vipers.
What is your BAW horse’s story?
The breakaway horse that I used for some of the season and that I will be my main mount at CFR is my boyfriend’s horse. I’m thankful that he let me use him this season, he for sure makes my job easy. He was 7yrs old when Ben bought him from Budge Herbert, out of Oklahoma.
What do you do to keep a sharp mental edge in the game of rodeo? How do you stay motivated throughout the season?
Rodeo for sure has its highs and lows there’s no doubt about that, but with the lows it makes the highs that much more exciting. I keep motivated because I’m doing it because I love it. I rodeo because I love it, and when you love what you do, you can always find something good, even in the lows.
What does your feed program consist of, and how do you keep your horses in shape? What is your riding routine usually like?
I feed my horses a little grain with Eberglo and Canpressco, along with that they get Alfalfa. To keep my horses in shape, they do lots of long trotting, backing up, hill work, loping, and trotting circles. Occasionally they get breezed out as well. I rarely ride my horses in the arena unless they need worked on the barrels.
What is the best advice you’ve been given regarding life, rodeo, horses, or roping?
You have to work hard to be successful. Success doesn’t come overnight and you have to work hard for it. Luck is created by hard work, and a good attitude.
What has been your most memorable barrel or BAW run over the years, and what made it memorable for you?
One of my most memorable barrels runs from this year would be from Denver, CO in January, where I was able to finish second behind Brittany Pozzi. it was such an exciting atmosphere and being able to do good made it was even more fun!
Who was your travel partner this year, what is your favourite thing about your travel partner?
Well I guess I pretty much have a built in travelling partner with Kylie. We do have lots of fun between jam sessions, or just enjoying what we do and supporting each other. As good as it sounds we do still fight like sisters!
What does it mean to you to have the Breakaway Roping at the CFR?
To have Breakaway Roping at the CFR is super exciting to me. All through Jr high and High School rodeo we were able to compete in the breakaway roping, and for it to now be at the professional level and at the CFR, it is such a dream come true for so many breakaway ropers. It’s awesome for us ladies to be able to compete in two events if we want, or for those that don’t want to barrel race, they now have breakaway roping at the professional level for women to be able to do! Thank you to the committees that were willing to add breakaway into there rodeos we truly can’t do it without them.
What does it mean to you to qualify for two events with your sister, the same year?
To be able to do this with Kylie is definitely very exciting. At the beginning of the season I had a big goal of trying to qualify for the CFR in both the barrels and breakaway, so for both of us be able to do it the same year is definitely a dream come true.
“Thank you to my Mom and Dad for always being so helpful and always willing to take care of things at home when Kylie and I are gone or with anything we need help with! Also thank you to Kate for always lending Kylie and I helping hand with anything we need and Ben for letting me ride your horse! Couldn’t do it without you guys, appreciate everything so much! Another big shoutout to my sponsors Canyon Rigging, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, Specialty risk and Western lifestyle insurance agencies, Eberglo Vitamin/Mineral supplement and Back On Track Canada, thank you for all you do to help me and my horses out!”
