Sarah Rose McDonald WNFR 2015

Sarah Rose McDonald and her mare Fame Fling N Bling have been on my radar for a year now. Back in February I finally interviewed McDonald which you can find here. I have been sitting on the edge of my seat watching these two the entire 2015 season, and I am beyond excited that they are headed to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December! Sarah & Bling’s biggest wins this year include winning both Go Rounds, the Finals and Average at Fort Worth, Texas, winning all 3 Go Rounds in their set in San Antonio, Texas, including placing in the Semi Finals and Finals, winning Salt Lake City and captured a Top 4 at Rodeo Houston.

Who is your “person” or “left hand man” that helped you down the road this year?
My boyfriend Wade Whatley. He drove the whole time and really helps me a lot. I’m so glad he has been able to travel everywhere with me. He is a very fun person to be around and we have a lot of fun on the road. He also understands how I like certain things done for my horses and takes good care of them.

What is Bling’s ideal set up or favorite arena to run in?
I love running her in small indoor arenas. Arenas like San Antonio and Salt Lake are the most fun runs because I can push her the whole run and she really drops low in her turns. She likes a tight alleyway and the barrels to be close to the fence.

What has been your proudest competitive moment?
Ft. Worth really was an awesome moment. It started our year off great and gave me confidence to finish the winter rodeos strong.

If you weren’t barrel racing, what would you be doing?
I would be lost! Horses and barrel racing have always been a big part of my life. I love competing and seeing our horses grow from baby to competing.

What are you most looking forward to in Las Vegas, other than running down the alley at the T&M?
I’m looking forward to the first practice because I know that’s when it will sink in that I’m really there.
