Lisa Lockhart WNFR 2014

When I had the idea to interview the top 15 ladies headed to this years NFR, I was kind of nervous. Would they reply, would they take me seriously? Some were harder to get ahold of than others. (I would like to thank Corina Dixon for getting me in contact with Lisa!!) Each time one would reply to my email, I would do a happy dance in my chair, and get all kinds of excited. The girls I look up to are talking to me, and are taking my little blog and I seriously! #winning! I know these interviews are short and sweet, but I didn’t want to over do it. They are busy with the 2015 season underway and the NFR only so far away! I hope you enjoy my mini NFR barrel racing contestant interviews!

2014 will be Lisa Lockharts 8th NFR qualification according to her WPRA Bio.  Earlier this year, The Million Dollar Cowgirl won $100,000 at the first RFDTV – THE AMERICAN, the worlds richest one day rodeo. SO COOL!!!! Watching the video of her winning run gives me chills.

What was your favourite Rodeo, or moment in the 2014 season?
I don’t normally have favorites, but this year I think the American falls into that category all by itself.

What was it like running at THE AMERICAN, and winning the $100,000?
The win at the American still doesn’t seem realistic! I think that is partly because soooo much happened in just ONE day! Everything happened so fast that I didn’t have time to process it all, and maybe still haven’t.  What an amazing event and honor.

What kept you motivated this season?
I think the thing that kept me motivated this year was proving that just because Louie was done for the season, I wasn’t gonna roll over & play dead…..go Chisum!!!

How do you keep your horses fresh for ten runs at the NFR? What is your routine like?
I try my best to keep my horses rested and happy while in Vegas. They get some turnout time, sunshine, and lots of treats!! It is a rigorous schedule there…..chores in the morning, then off to daily requirements (autographs, required functions, etc), then back to the horses by 3:00 or so to get ready to head for the Thomas & Mack. When the dust settles for the day, I can hopefully be in bed by midnight (unless one is fortunate enough to still be at the South Point buckle ceremony until midnight!)

How do you deal with being on the road away from your husband Grady, and your kids, Alyssa, Thane & Cade? Do you get to see them often?
The hardest part about rodeoing for me is the time spent away from my family. It was great when we were able to go as a family, but they have their own endeavors now. I cry when I leave, call ALL the time, and get home EVERY chance I get (which requires extra miles driven, but oh well!). My family comes first, and rodeo comes second.

All the best to Lisa at this years NFR!!!
