Amber Moore WNFR 2017
In 2016 Amber Moore went to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 15th position, and left as the Reserve World Champion. The pair tied the area record, and placed in eight of ten rounds.This year Moore is headed to Vegas in fourth position after bringing home $120,806.42 after 52 rodeos, with CP Dark Moon aka. Paige who is by Darkelly and out of an On A High mare.
What was your favourite rodeo this year and why?
San Antonio . Paige did very well, she won all 6 rounds and ended up the highest money earner in the history of the San Antonio Stock Show. It was also a honor to win the last rodeo that Hadley Barrett announced and knowing how much he loved Paige.
What has been the best advice you’ve been given regarding barrel racing or rodeo?
To never over think the process, never put your horse in a situation that you lose there trust, and to remember it’s just one run at a time.
If you were just starting out now, who would you train under, what clinics would you be taking? Who do your morals line up with?
I have been surrounded by many mentors growing up and those are the ones I would go back to if I had to start over again.
With all the miles made, what kept the WNFR dream alive for you?
Having fun and enjoying the ride along the way.
We all know that being competitive takes mental strength. What do you do to keep a sharp mental edge in the game of rodeo? Do you do anything before a run to keep your nerves in check?
I remind myself it’s just another run. It’s just the same three barrels I have gone around a million times. I just have to let Paige go out and do her job and stay out of her way.
Under your program, what do you do when a horse feels off to you? Who/what therapies do you include in your program?
At the first sign of any injury, I am on the phone with my vet. I use a variety of different therapies, acuscope, myopulse, message, and laser therapy.
When shopping, what areas of conformation turn you off? What points of conformation do your prospects absolutely must have?
A big heart, willing attitude, and a kind eye is just as important to me as conformation.
What would you like to see be done in the industry to better rodeo as a sport?
That more rodeo committees would take the time to assure their ground is safe for all contestants.
