Amberleigh Moore WNFR 2016
In 2015 Salem, OR cowgirl Amber Moore was a rookie. During the 2016 season she was picking up cheque’s and steadily climbing, but didn’t make the top 15 in the WPRA til the second last week of the season. After $79,067.98 and 53 rodeos, Moore is headed to her very first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
The 48 year old won Omak for $2765.48, Misoula, Montana for $2,022.88, and Sisters, OR for $4,316.48. It was a second place finish in Albuquerque, NM that put her into the Top 15 in late September.
Amber has been riding horses all her life, and competed on her main mount CP Dark Moon aka Paige at the futurities. Paige is by Darkelly and out of an On A High mare, and runs to the left. She will also be bringing Junos Royal Flush aka Jen as her back up horse who is by Dash of Royal Gold and out of a Kings Tuf N Royal mare.
Does she have any quirks?
Paige always has to have a traveling partner with her. She likes to have everything in order, she is a perfectionist.
How would you describe her style?
Paige’s style is hard running and hard turning. She is very consistent, and doesnt like to make mistakes.
What are your favorite bloodlines for barrel racing?
Darkelly of course!
With all the miles made, varying ground conditions, and expenses, what kept the NFR dream alive for you?
Making it to the NFR was a dream made possible by focusing on “one run at a time” and not worrying about the bigger picture, but enjoying the moment.
We all know that being competitive takes mental strength. What do you do to keep a sharp mental edge in the game of rodeo? Do you do anything before a run to keep your nerves in check?
I stay true to my game, but keeping the same routine for both Paige and myself. I remind myself its just 3 barrels, enjoy the ride.
What is your go to product for keeping your horse sound for the season?
I use Back On Track hauling down the road and I like to get Paige home as much as possible to keep her fresh and happy.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given regarding barrel racing?
The best advice was given to me by a long time friend and barrel racer. “Dont ever put your horse in harms way, so they never have to lose your trust every time you send them down that alley.”
