Lynette Brodoway CFR 2016
After winning Leduc, Sundre, Bonnyville and Hanna Pro Rodeos, Lynette Broadway and SR Root Sixty Six are heading North to Edmonton in less than a week in 5th position. After 41 rodeos, the duo took home $19,813.27 and are excited for their first Canadian Finals Rodeo qualification.
This past February Broadway competed at RFDTV’s The American Semi-Finals in Fort Worth, Texas and made it back to the short go as our lone Canadian. Though they didn’t make it to the big show in Arlington, Texas this year, they made Canada very proud.
SR Root Sixty Six or Freeway is a 2006 gelding by Root Beers Boots and out of a Six Fols mare.
Does he have any quirks?
Freeway is pretty much a gentleman but can be humpy on cooler days. I have learned to do a big warm up on him when he is fresh.
How would you describe his style?
Freeway is a straighter type horse. Runs hard and rates hard.
What is the best piece of advice you were ever given regarding barrel racing?
Never sacrifice the horse for the game – Kay Davis, NFR Qualifier
With all the miles made, varying ground conditions, and expenses, what kept the CFR dream alive for you?
Freeway kept the CFR dream alive!
What is one thing you can’t live without on the road?
I cannot leave home without my daytimer – my life is written in it!
What is your exercise routine for getting your horses legged up?
I long trot and lope 2-3 miles everyday. Freeway gets worked on a cutting flag periodically.
Riding a seasoned barrel horse, what exercises do you do for tune-ups on the pattern?
Freeway gets lots of alley work at home. He can get worked up before a run; I find that this really helps.
What are your favorite bloodlines for barrel racing & why?
The Root Beers Boots crossed with running bred mares has worked well for me.
We all know that being competitive takes mental strength. What do you do to keep a sharp mental edge in the game of rodeo?
I have resources that I am continually studying and applying. Before I make a run I remind myself to ‘trust Freeway’.
What is your go to product for keeping your horse sound for the season?
‘Herbs for Horses’ – equine supplements.
