Aimee Kay CFR 2015

Miss Aimee Kay comes to us from Bluff Dale Texas. She ran at 35 CPRA rodeos this year with seasonal earnings of $19,751.54 putting her in 7th position. This will be  Aimee’s  first Canadian Finals Rodeo, and she will be running her mare LK Sheza Peasa Dinero aka. Daisy (PC Frenchmans Hayday  X Pie in the Sky daughter that Aimee rodeo’d on) who just might be the first 4 year old horse to run in Edmonton. Aimee was 5th in the first round of Ponoka this year ( 17.58 $2,213.60), won the final with a 17.629 ($2000), won the Average ($4427.20) and fourth in the Bonus round ($1500)). If you have gone to any of the CPRA Rodeo’s this year, I’ll guarantee this duo has caught your eye. Daisy is a gorgeous palomino, who can lay down a deadly run!

Does Daisy have any quirks? How would you describe her style?
Sometimes she can be difficult to catch in large turnouts. She’s always just been fun and try’s her heart out every time.

What made you want to run her this year, being as young as she is?
I ran a 6 yr old half sister to Daisy for the first 5 rodeos but didn’t win any money on her. Switched to Daisy at Stavely cause other horse was missing a shoe that morning and never switched back. Had planned on seasoning her a little but never thought she would handle everything as well as she did.

Has your routine changed with her as you prepare for CFR?
She is turned out right now. Won’t leg her up until later on. Mostly do a simple workout and try and stay out of arena when home. No ‘tuning’ just maybe walk through barrels.

What is your favorite Canadian rodeo you ran at this year and why?
That’s a difficult question cause there are so many great rodeos and committees in Canada but I’d have to go with Ponoka because its the biggest and any committee that can raise 50k an event every year as well as always increasing it yearly has to be respected and appreciated especially in such a small town like Ponoka. It was built by Cowboys for Cowboys and you definitely see that in the payout and great stock they bring there.

What is the best advice you were ever given regarding barrel racing? The best advise for me is following the ‘KISS rule’ Keep it Simple Stupid.

What is the one thing you can’t live without on the road?
My horse.

What are your favorite pair of boots and fave lipstick/lip gloss/lip chap?
Lagrange leather boots. I don’t wear lipstick but Mary kay lip gloss or whatever lip chap my fiancée has in his pocket.

Aimee would like to thank her sponsors Classic Equine & Platinum Performance.
