Imagine if the National Hockey League only had their sports medicine team at half of the hockey games due to funding..
The Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team has never been at every PBR Canada event or pro rodeo in our country in a single season. With the help of the Ty Pozzobon Foundation founders and generous supporters, there will be a CPRSMT presence more than double in 2017
The Ty Pozzobon Foundation was created to protect and support the health and well-being of rodeo competitors inside and outside the arena.
Though right now the main goal of the TPF is not to pay those who are benched due to injury, the Cowboy Benevolent fund does, and thus far has never had anyone apply for assistance due to a concussion or multiple concussions. Perhaps they will now as we have witnessed more cowboys sit out due to head injuries than before.
You don’t have to donate thousands of dollars to support this foundation. By purchasing a Live Like Ty t-shirt, you are helping the cause. I believe this shirt should be purchased and worn by each rodeo contestant, as every rodeo athlete knows how important the CPRSMT is. By having the sports med team at every rodeo in the future, they can keep our athletes feeling their best and competing at their peak level. In addition the team can keep better count of head injuries. With no concussion protocol currently in place they seek to educate and help athletes make better judgement calls on when they should sit out or keep riding.
Photographer Covy Moore was able to raise over $7,200 towards the TPF by auctioning off eight of his own prints of Pozzobon, plus the generosity of a matched donation.
The Live Like Ty tees have also been sold at various events including the Chad Besplug Invitational, and Canadian Cowboy Downhill Ski Race. The TPF Facebook Page has over 12,000 page likes, and is continuing to grow.
You can pick your own Live Like Ty t-shirt up at the booth during The Mane Event in Red Deer, Alberta April 21-23. Canadians can also purchase these shirts online for $35 at www.typozzobon.com. Shirts are soon to be available for purchase south of the border, also at www.typozzobon.com
What does Live Like Ty mean to you? To me, it’s a reminder to to be kind to one another, to support, empower and love one another. To live life to the fullest and have no fear. To show us that when we live this way, there is no limit to what we can achieve. I hope you #livelikety every day.
I decided to cut the sleeves off of one of my Live Like Ty shirts to give it a different look and styled it for a quick shoot when I was in Longview earlier this month.
