Rocky Mountain Dodge brings the ‘Big’ to the Big Bang Barrel Race

The 2023 Big Bang Barrel Race is set for July 26-30 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, and this year is upping the ante.

In partnership with Rocky Mountain Dodge in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, the Big Bang Barrel Race will be awarding a brand new Dodge Ram* to one of the four showdown round winners on July 30.

One of four talented barrel racers, the winner of each of the 4 divisions of competition on July 30 will randomly be chosen to take home the grand prize.

In addition to the Rocky Mountain Dodge backed vehicle prize, in 2023 the Big Bang Barrel Race is offering more than $250,000 in payout and prizing, all in an effort to push the barrel racing industry in Canada forward.

“We are so incredibly humbled and excited to have partnered with Rocky Mountain Dodge for this year’s event and hopefully many more to come,” said the Big Bang Barrel Races’ director AJ Maddox.

“Our goals are simple. To offer some of the best prizing and payout in the industry in Canada, ensuring that our competitors are given opportunities to make a living in this sport. I don’t know of anything more exciting than running a showdown round with your horse, then heading back to the arena to collect a set of keys to your brand new Dodge truck.”

For Rocky Mountain Dodge, the opportunity to partner with an event that is looking to not only give back to the community from a prizing standpoint, but nurture the future of the sport and expansion of women’s events in rodeo with the Big Bang’s junior division and Thursday night Breakaway Roping.

"The whole team here at Rocky Mountain Dodge is very excited to be given the opportunity to partner with The Big Bang Barrel Race," said Rocky Mountain Dodge's Rod the Sales Boss.

"The chance to be able to give back to the community, locally or outside of our area is amazing. We cannot wait to meet this year's winner and hopefully grow our partnership with AJ and her team more in the years to come."

Right smack dab in the middle of the Canadian Barrel Racing season, the Big Bang Barrel Race is hoping to be another cog in a championship season for any competitor, as last years top money earner Jennifer Neudorf along with her horse Fames Syzygy would ride the wave of momentum of rodeo wins and this success at the Big Bang all the way to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Red Deer in November.

“I love the sport of barrel racing, and I think that having an event with this much going back into the pockets and tack rooms of our entries will draw from greater distances and bring more and more of the North American barrel racing community to Canada at a time where there are so many more great events going on up here,” Maddox said.

“It will be a win-win for the entire community. But especially for that pairing driving out of Wetaskiwin in a brand new Rocky Mountain Dodge Ram. Now can the summer get here already?”
